Back to the Roots…

Evidence has proved the roots of Reflexology begun more than 4,000 years ago. In approximately 2300BC paintings were discovered in Egypt showing a Reflexology treatment in progress.(see above) The symbols surrounding the painting depict “wisdom, learning, peace, health and prosperity”. Since those early times Reflexology has been found to exist in cultures all over the world: i.e. American Indians (Cherokee tribes), India (Ayurvedic medicine) and China (in conjunction with acupuncture). Reflexology as we know it in the West had its origins in the study of zone therapy at the early part of the 19th Century by Dr William Fitzgerald. Experimentations led him to discover that by applying pressure to key points on the extremities of the feet he could bring about normal physiological functioning in other parts of the body. Since these times Reflexology has come today to be known as one of the most popular complementary therapies.

How does Reflexology Work?

The body has the ability to heal itself. Reflexology is a whole body treatment that brings about relaxation and balance creating the circumstances for self-healing to occur. Every organ, structure and system of the body is mirrored in the feet and hands. Energy or ‘chi’ as the Chinese call it runs through ten zones in the body. Therefore working on a particular zone in the foot affects the same zones in the entire body. The body is in a state of imbalance following stress, disease, illness or injury meaning that these energy pathways or zones become congested with the body unable to function at optimum levels. Reflexology is therefore able to release this congestion and tension allowing energy to flow freely maintaining the body’s natural equilibrium and to encourage self-healing.

Who can it help?

Most people from young children to the elderly can benefit from Reflexology and it does not conflict with orthodox medical practices. Imbalances can be corrected at an early stage before manifesting as physical symptoms. Overall whether you have a chronic or an acute health problem or are looking for a relaxing way to reduce tension and promote well being Reflexology is a positive step towards a healthier life.

Benefits of Reflexology

  • Improves Circulation

  • Speeds elimination of waste products/toxins

  • Reduces stress, anxiety and tension

  • Increases energy levels

  • Helps sinusitis; insomnia, back pain, sciatica, constipation, irritable bowel syndrome, headaches, migraine, pre-menstrual tension etc.

  • Relaxes the body, mind and spirit.

“Hands are meant for healing”

The therapeutic benefits of touching are undeniable. It is the most basic form of communication we have. The spiritual awareness that results from receiving reflexology allows you to acquire an insight into the causes of a particular imbalance. In order to attain lasting and positive change to your body this insight is essential, as our health cannot improve until we have the desire to change and acquire the belief that positive effects will occur.

A Typical Session

A typical session lasts approximately one hour from beginning to end but allow 1¼ hour’s for the initial consultation. Treatment begins with a relaxing foot massage followed by a full reflexology treatment working the pressure points on both feet individually. At the end of treatment some reflexes may be reworked. The session ends with the application of an aromatherapy foot cream accompanies with a soothing massa

05.

This is an ancient and natural therapy handed down by many civilisations. It is believed that the Ancient Greeks used ear candles, for cleansing, purifying and healing on a spiritual basis. However the practice reached the modern world via the native American Hopi Indians of North Arizona.

Placing a candle inside the ear creates a ‘chimney effect’. The flame of the candle creates a vacuum, which can pull wax and other particles of debris out of the ear. Slight under pressure inside the ear candle and a vibration of the rising air column through the natural movement of the flame serve to gently massage the eardrum. This induces a pleasant feeling of warmth and a balance of pressure in the ears, forehead and sinuses. It is a soothing sensation and can be helpful for earache, headaches, migraine, sinusitis, ringing in the ears and is relaxing and calming for stress symptoms. Jacqui uses BIOSUN candles which are 100% safe, hand-made on the basis of an old original recipe using natural ingredients – Honey, Pure Beeswax and crushed traditional Indian medicinal herbs mainly Sage, Camomile and St John’s Wort. The treatment process involves burning the candles one at a time followed by a gentle ear massage and some reiki.
